From the Traveling Laptop

Mother Nature has sure had fun with us this year! Here in the Big Bend we have been basking in 70+ degrees for the last week – and more on the way! Down along the River Road, the bluebonnets are so thick in some places that you cannot walk! And it’s just the second week of February… I hope Mother Nature doesn’t “bite us” before Spring officially arrives.

Have the warmer temperatures and fresh air stimulated your “love” for this time of year? Next Tuesday we are celebrating the season of love with a special Hands-On Poetry Workshop “Poetry With A Pulse” featuring Alpine’s very own Larry Thomas, Texas Poet Laureate 2008. Come join us for an evening of poetry reading and writing – and try your hand at romantic verse. Love, after all, IS timeless and perfect anytime!

The TMTW steering committee is in a flurry of activity putting together the final details of our annual Spring Writer’s Retreat. There’s a teaser below and link for more info on what is to come. The Overview and Registration details will be coming by next week at the latest! So keep your eyes peeled…

Finally, remember to submit your stories, poems, etc. for inclusion in the Chaos! The deadline is February 28. For more details, CLICK HERE to go to the Chaos page.

Picture Writing Prompts

Writing inspiration this year will come to you monthly in the form of two pictures from which to choose as a writing prompt.

The usual rules apply, 500 words or fewer, to be read at the next meeting if you wish. The genre is your choice. The works will be collected for inclusion in our annual journal, Chaos West of the Pecos.

If you are not a local Alpine/Fort Davis member and/or cannot attend meetings, but would like to participate, email your story to Reba at moc.l1496043822iamg@1496043822slaes1496043822ssorc1496043822r1496043822. We hope you enjoy this new form of motivation.

Kip, here is a little tidbit for the next newsletter. Not sure I agree but it’s interesting coming from Ambrose. – Cindy
