From the TMTW Steering Committee

What fun to see various rainstorms move and dance around Cathedral Mountain from the high patio view of Jackie and Roger Siglin’s home in May. Our annual Potluck end of the year party was delicious, and we were so happy to have Jerry Rogers from Midland drive down to eat with us, read with us, and share some ideas from the Midland writers’ group.

For the second year TMTW are in favor of having a Steering Committee handle most of the business outside of meetings instead of traditional officers. A small group can help guide the club so as not to have the burden of decisions on just a couple of people. Also, that way group members can spend monthly meeting time on programs, writing exercises, and reading the monthly prompts for the Chaos. And eating too, of course!

We are inviting members who are interested in our TMTW organization to join the Steering Committee. Please notify Jackie at or me at  if you are willing to help. We are sad to lose Kip who will be traveling for the next 5 months or so. If you have been a member of the Steering Committee this year, please let us know if you want remain on the committee.

A reminder to those of you who have not paid dues this year since we did not have our annual retreat as a reminder, please contact Jackie Siglin at as to where to send your check or renew using our online form.

Picture Writing Prompts

Alpine is busy preparing for the annual Writers League of Texas Summer Retreat at Sul Ross. Five outstanding presenters are featured, and some of the classes still have openings! Google the “Writers League of Texas” and see what you might be missing.

Here are two summer photos to stir your creative juices. Or, are those juices I see dripping Popsicles? However you stay cool, do heat up your imagination and send your story, 500 words or fewer, to .

The genre is your choice. The works will be collected for inclusion in our annual journal, Chaos West of the Pecos.

If you are not a local Alpine/Fort Davis member and/or cannot attend meetings, but would like to participate, email your story to Reba at . We hope you enjoy this new form of motivation.

A word from TMTW member, Bob Miles: The October issue of the Cenizo Journal is going to contain some fiction. This is a departure from the usual. Thanks, Bob, for this heads-up. Another market for our writings. I’m sure it will also be southwest/Big Bend oriented.
