From the Atelier of our President:

Where is our promised snow?  My sister called this morning; they’ve got 3 inches so far in Natchitoches, Louisiana, a place that rarely sees snow.  She is thrilled!  Of course everything has been shut down and cancelled over there so she’s got a long weekend at home.  They may get up to 7 inches before the front moves out.

I am happy with sun, of course.  And thankful that I live in an area where we can have snow one day and sun the next!  And, if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute!

We’re anxious to hear how Kip liked Alaska and look forward to a report from her.  She should now be back in the warmer climes of Texas.

Meeting Announcement: Our December CHRISTMAS PARTY POTLUCK will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in the Fiesta Room at the Hallmark Apartments in Alpine at 6:30 pm.

See Party Details Below!

From the Atelier of Our Prez:

Happy holidays!  This season my family combined my parents’ 60th anniversary, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all in two days’ time in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  I drove, which is a 12-hour push to the wall one-way drive.  Going over I broke up the trip and stopped at a friend’s house close to Dallas; but coming back I checked in on the predicted weather for Alpine, and when the woman at the Texas Tourist Center right across the Louisiana line outside of Shreveport told me that Alpine was expecting three days of snow, I put the pedal to the metal and pushed as hard as I could to get back to Alpine before the “blizzard.”  Two wrecks and one huge traffic jam caused by road construction on I-20 delayed me by three hours.  So it took 15 hours to drive from Natchitoches to Alpine.  I got home at midnight; needless to say I was worthless at work the next day (but probably not more than usual).

Writing Asssignment by Darrell White: What I Did For Summer Vacation and Why

From the Atelier of Our Prez:

Hello, gang…time for us to herd up again!  We’re gathering on September 22, 7 PM, at the Hallmark Apartments in Alpine.  Our normal meeting date is the third Tuesday of the month; but this first fall meeting will be held the 4th Tuesday.  We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces again; please remember to invite your neighbors or interested parties to attend.  It’s my turn to provide refreshments; I promise not to kill anybody.

I know you’ve all been busy with traveling, visiting, working, and I hope some writing.

Darrell White, our worthy Vice Prez, was one of the authors featured at the WOW Texas Book Festival this summer held at Sul Ross and I asked him to send a synopsis of his experience there not realizing that it was not a good one.   Continue reading September Newsletter | “Log of the Trail” →

The sun is out, hip hip hooray
It’s time to run and laugh and play
Pet the dog, comb the cat
Put on shorts and fishing hat

Years ago I wrote this little ditty for Vacation Bible School curriculum to mark the end of the school year.  And, it’s the end of our “school year” as well since we more or less follow the school schedule.  Time to travel, Continue reading June Newsletter | “Log of the Trail” →
